Dindim the Penguin

In 2011 Joao Pereira de Souza came across a penguin with a broken leg lying on a beach in Brazil. The bird was covered with oil and also had an injury to its back.

Mr de Souza took care of the bird. He removed the oil and rubbed ointment onto the wound. He gave the penguin the name Dindim.

When he was fully recovered Dindim was ringed and released into the ocean to make the 4,000 kms journey back to Patagonia.

For four years, from 2012 to 2015, Dindim returned in June or July to visit Mr de Souza.

In 2016 the months of June and July came and went and Dindim failed to appear.

Mr de Souza did not expect to see his friend again, but on the morning of 1st August  much to everyone's surprise Dindim was back, and patiently waiting at the fence.

If only Dindim could talk, what tales he might tell.

Sons of Men

The first miracle was performed at a wedding reception. 

The guests having polished off the wine were calling for more.   

The Son of Man duly performed the famous miracle and those who wanted to do so were pleased to have the chance to drink themselves under the table. 

Why didn't the Son of Man tell the guests to drink a non-alcoholic beverage?

Throughout history there have been holy and unholy alcoholics and drunkards of all ranks. I see no reason for anyone, let alone the Son of Man, to encourage it. 

There should be no need to mention the fact that wine was served at the Last Supper. But unfortunately there is. 

One follower overflowing with Dutch courage took a sword to a Roman soldier, and sliced off his ear.  The Son of Man performed his final miracle and stuck it back on. 

God only knows what else went on . . .

Whatever our faith, or even if we have no faith, we are all Sons of Men, are we not? 

Last of the Summer Wine (with Tractors)

Today dawned bright and sunny and called for a walk in the countryside hereabouts. A few of us decided to head into the vineyards on the hills by the nearby village of Gumpoldskirchen. There were some fine tractors to be seen and there were many temporary stalls and taverns along the way offering fresh wine or soda water, and fortifying food for the walker; various cakes including traditional apple strudel, and large slices of brown bread smothered with traditional spreads of pumpkin, beetroot or paprika cheese. It was a great day. The above pictures may give you a flavour of it.

Some people today are concerned about sheeplethink.  

The department of propaganda currently housed in the UN now promulgates with missionary zeal such propaganda as cannot be associated with a meaningful word like thinking.

It is simply sheeplethink, to use my polite word. 

Prominent law-abiding persons are being attacked by the UN with hate and vitriol.

Norbert Hofer is a good example. Here is a presidential candidate in a neutral European democratic country who is currently on the UN's hate list.

The trouble with Mr Hofer, Mr Trump, Mr Farage and others, as far as the UN sees it, is that they dare to think outside the UN's sheeplethink box.

In the above edition of a 1930's German weekly the headline reads: The Leader is Always Right.

Unfortunately as everyone knows the leader is not always right, even if he be a prominent well-heeled personage in the UN.

There are according to some estimates 7,000 languages and 4,200 religions in the world. To bring them all under one umbrella, one way of thinking and one way of being, is a work worthy of Sisyphus.

That's the plain fact.

The other plain fact:  Thought Control Policing has never worked in the long term and never will.

The rest is money and 'spenses.
