After reading this post you might search the word 'Bohunice' in the blog search box. You will find there an example (in poetry form) of potential danger here in Europe.
the sky darkened
and the crows
were restless, excited
haiku based on one of the first eye witness reports I heard on the news
- the sky darkening reminds me of the report of the earthquake at the
time of Jesus' crucifixion
good may yet come out of this tragedy - it may bring the uneasy
relationship between Japan and China to some kind of normality
Have been reading your comments at Gwilym,
ReplyDeleteThere's always signs in nature...When the 2004 Tsunami struck Indian shores...there were reports that animals and birds (who can sense ultra low frequency waves) were very kind of restless before two a day or two...and most left the shores before the tragedy struck --
darkening of sky is there in most epic stories, i guess, when the good is overshadowed by evil,

*Have been reading your comments at Kuni-san's, Gwilym,
ReplyDeleteDevika, try telling that to a scientist and he will say "coincidence" but know it's not.
ReplyDeleteAnimals know things. They are not just flesh. When a person died recently a cat, never seen before, came immediately to the house and walked through the door and upstairs to the room of the deceased. Then almost immediately afterwards heron flew past - heading west. No heron had flown past the house in 10 years!
When another person died in the same house a white dove came twice to the house. No white dove had been to the house in over 10 years.
These things I witnessed myself. Animals, they know stuff. As I said, they are more than flesh.
well done Gwilym

Yes, yet i very well understand that, Gwilym...though often classified as superstition by us, the modern generation, Man, when he lived in tandem with nature, had studied and recorded many signs that could affect his life,
ReplyDeletegenerally not supersitious, but i have my own experiences as regards omens - others might laugh at it,
even i have laughed at sometimes,
and those observations made on animals could be scientific as well --it depends on what level of frequency of the waves could be sensed -- And animals and birds like dogs, cats, crows, owls etc can sense low frequencies as compared to human beings -- that is why they sense fastter than man,
Man has this tendency to question the existence of eveything that is beyond the level of his ability of perception...and that apparently varies from individual to individual
it takes astute sense to see, know and understand -- all these "superstitions" then become something of value, perhaps....perhaps,

and Gwilym an other interesting note are bird-songs and dogs howling in the night -- There are people known to me personally who predict death hearing those...and i've seen that come true -- but to give in totally to those predictions is kind of living in fear -- so there's a tendency to negate those beliefs,

Gwilym -- may need to exactly see which animals have the ability to sense lower...and which has ability to hear higher, and which has both...i was writing from my general idea that they sense beyond what man can sense -- low or high,
ReplyDeletebut in death there must definitely be a movement of spirit through air, causing some sort of vibration that translates as sound...or even a vision to the eyes such as that of a cat can see? not sure -- paranormal experiences, may be,
I've just written my thoughts...hope it's okay, Gwilym

We cannot live in clouds of superstition but what we can do is take more notice of what's going on around us in the natural world. If animals start behaving in unusual ways it means something unusual is going on in nature. It can be as you say that they sense things beyond man's capacity to sense. The unexplained appearance of millions of sardines in LA, Calif - so many that there was no oxygen left in the water for them to breathe - just before the 7.2 earthquake off Japan is a case in point. Fish have a special nerves down the sides of their bodies so that the whole shoal of thousands of fish can sense the minutest changes in pressure and turn together as one.
ReplyDeleteYes, live in more awareness, Nature through history has never been stable...many species have gone into extintion -- could man have saved them? or could they save themselves? what is significant in larger scheme of things? -- we as individuals and nations may need to think and rethink as we go o.... Nature is giving those signs perhaps,

The problem is that people won't take much notice of nature unless it can be proved by a test in a laboratory. And this is short sightedness.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Gwilym
Think needing proof for everthing is man's limitation, Gwilym...where acceptance is perhaps the only key...Great scientists have always had space for that, I think :)

The images are just so appalling aren't they? As for the uneasy relationship Gwilym - memories are long - very long - don't you think we still have an uneasy relationship over Agincourt?
ReplyDeleteChinese suffering during the Second World war and before at the hands of the Japanese is still within living memory for many = Dominic's father for one would not have lived had the atom bomb not have been dropped (he was on the Death Railway and dying of Cerebral Malaria at the end of the war). I am just astounded that Japan can have so very many Nuclear sites - I thought they were anti-Nuclear energy.
Pat, The problem in WWII was that the Japanese were brainwashed - they thought the Emperor to be a God. And so they obeyed without question every order no matter how cruel or how ridiculous. The first rescue team to arrive in Japan was from China. You will recall a spat a few years ago about the content of Japanese history books - the fact that they were censored - that they didn't mention for example the Nanking Massacre.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, maybe some good can come. Maybe the two rivals can now bury the past and make a final peace. After all, the people living today are not the same people who were responsible for the outrages of WWII.
