Starlings now gather
Starlings
now gather
in clouds in their thousands
preparing to flee
the cold weather
of Deutschland
where wet yellow leaves
fly away
from the trees
if only to block the drains
in the streets
the streets where the fog
comes and goes
and the incessant rain
is windswept
and cold.
Most of the white storks
already flown south.
The last of the swallows
away in September.
The swallows
as always
the first ones to fly
to
that
far destination.
Today
they dance under
an African sky.

A really wonderful piece. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Blogoratti. That's very kind of you.
DeleteLovely Gwil - captures the spirit of Autumn as everything closes down - in some ways you are worse off over there, at least we get some benefit from being surrounded by the sea, whereas your climate is colder. Cold enough for me here though thankyou.
ReplyDeleteIndeed we are much worse off weatherwise. Our winters come from Siberia. The worst is not the cold but the fog which can hang around for weeks on end, sometimes months.
