50 years on Gagarin takes off!

Yesterday saw the successful launch of the space ship 'Gagarin', so named to honour the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. You can watch the launch via my RT LINK at top rt.

The 'Gagarin' is on its way, with its crew of 3, to rendezvous with the ISS.

There's a Yuri Gagarin poem you can read here if you enter 'Yuri Gagarin' in the blog search-box.

Please enjoy.

  1. I remember the day well - it all seemed so very exciting. Such a long time ago and such a lot of water under the bridge.

  2. Me too, I'll always remember those photos in all the papers, the handsome smiling cosmonaut, and what a contrast to Breshnev! They couldn't be more opposite.
Do you know that all the wreckage from his aeroplane crash is stored in sealed drums awaiting examination sometime in the future. Why he died aged 38 is still unclear.

  4. A fantastic poetry mix of history and nature. I enjoyed looking back on the poem. It is amazing how the poet finds prompts unexpectedly!
