the next day:
flat stone to stand on -
the coiled black snake
writhing & hissing*

* the snake will only bite if disturbed say the experts; adding -the bite of the vipera berus is extremely painful but seldom fatal

  2. Gerald, it's a friend of mine. I took the photo. But you are right to express concern. The next day I was confronted by a poisonous snake hissing and squirming from a rock on which I was about to step. In fact it almost half lunged in my direction - my first black viper - I managed a twisting leap of escape!
