haiku waltzer

we dropped
into
the toilet

in the underground passage
and with a coin
we engaged

the herzlich willkommen
noting the tenor
and the decor

we conducted
ourselves
with operatic decorum

took our seats
in a row
and relaxed to the strains

of the blue
danube
waltz

we unrolled
the soft paper
we squished the soft soap

we left
as we found
left our smiles in the mirrors

  1. "Poet In Residence" has been included in this weeks Sites To See. I hope this helps to attract many more new visitors here.

  3. This somehow reminds me of the row of loos where they spent the morning discussing important matters at Ephesus!

  4. The double image of the opera toilets and the latrines at Ephesus is wonderful. I wonder what the sound track to those discussions of "important matters" was, and if you had to pay for the pleasure of relaxing to the strains of whatever it was you were relaxing, or straining over. I think we can rule soft paper and squishy soap right out. "Herzlich Wilkommen" is a beautiful touch.

  5. Pat, of course you may be right. Many people, I assume, do their best thinking on the lavatory seat.

Mairi, I suppose there might be a minstrel with a small lute there to entertain the queues. Especially after a night on the ouzo.
