A POPE FOR THE POOR

THE BANKER . . .

. . . AND THE POOR

A new way of doing

God's business on Earth

May be a blessing on the poor

The new leader of the Roman Catholic Church has taken the name of Francis. Whether this name relates to Saint Francis of Assisi or to Saint Francis Xavier or to both of these saints is not immediately clear. All will become clear as time unfolds. On Pope Francis's watch the poor may yet inherit, if not the Earth, at least a significant portion of the contents of the Vatican Bank. We live in wholly interesting times.

  1. I must say that I am not am RC Gwil, but I watched the whole thing with interest - history in the making and all that. On face value - and reading about him - he sounds a humble and kindly man. But why must they all be so old (having said that he does look a very young 76)?
Wonderful so see 150,000+ in St Peter's Square - I was once there for the Sunday blessing and it was awe-inspiring - there were buses there from all over the country.

  2. I am not a practicing member of any of the world's major religions and I like to think I have a one on one relationship with my creator but nevertheless I am always interested in these accessions to the thrones and positions of power of the world. I wonder if he will put his (i.e. the Vatican's) money where his mouth is, so to say. For example, here in Austria the RC Church is the second largest landowner in the country with over 500,000 hctrs, and I wonder if he will be thinking it's time to get the church out of the land owning business and back into God's business, as an aspect of his giving to the poor theology.
