ET meets resistance

  1. There is no peace in our culture today. It has become obsolete. All forms of bad behaviour and bad manners are today accepted.

  2. I like your new header picture. It has desolation and waste about it.

    1. Thanks Rachel for both of those comments. Bad behaviour is commonplace. Bad manners is very general here and when I challenge such people as I encounter who have obviously no concept of basic politeness I realize when I try to educate them I am wasting my breath, because hardly have I got half a dozen words out when they go off like a firework. A woman the other day screamed at me: I suppose you're from England are you! just because I politely pointed out to her that half crazy growling lip slobbering trembling hound from hell was blocking the public footpath and giving me the evil eye presumably because I was wearing my yellow swept back sun glasses against the sun's glare and that her canine might be happier on a lead or wearing a muzzle and not running free and threatening innocent folks like some black clad villain of the orient

    2. Yes it is a sad state of humanity that we have degenerated to. It is not nice that the manifestation of good manners are rare and bad manners are commonplace. When I thank the train driver on leaving the train it is sad that I am almost without exception the only person who does so. It is heads down and self self self. I tried talking to a woman on the train the other day, she is a regular and now that my other friends no longer travel I thought I would make a new one. She made it perfectly clear she does not wish to speak to me half turning away. I said to Peter the other night it is always good to have friends because you never know when you will need someone, so when something goes wrong on the train for her I might just be looking out of the window.

    3. As children we had to stand up on public transport if the seats were full so that elderly and infirm persons could have a seat. Now they have to have special signs on seats where the elderly, infirm , blind and pregnant are allowed to sit and loudspeaker announcements every 10 or 15 minutes telling us what to to do if we see an elderly person etc. standing. When it comes to politeness the condition of modern man is firmly towards bananas.

    4. If I spoke to a woman on a tram or train she'd glare at me as if I was some potential mugger or sex maniac and snap her neck firmly towards the window. And I'm rapidly approaching 70 and have white hair! Maybe I'm wrong to judge but I think I look the reasonably open and friendly type. By the way have you read Waterland by Graham Swift? It's set in the Fens and it's about the history of a fictional family who own a brewery; a very good and well written novel. About 2/3's through it at the moment.

    5. Just heard on the English news on FM4 about Rifkind and Straw. No wonder our standards have sunk to the depths with such role models.

    6. Jack Straw is glad of an excuse to resign. Rifkind doesn't think he has done anything wrong. Another boring enquiry awaits.

    7. Their mugshots have graced our tabloids today. They will soon be household names in Austria. This is because they have their own ex-currently doing his 4 years, EU Parliament member Ernst Strasser.
Here a fascinating enquiry into a bank scandal is due to get underway this week. It concerns the Balkans, the Bavarians, Austria's top banker, a Zombie Bank whatever that is, and a Bad Bank that wasn't bad enough, a controversial politician who died in strange circumstances officially called an accident after speaking of revealing bank scandals on TV, and some other ex-politicians and current politicians who have made strange and dubious decisions over the last several years concerning the whole affair . . .

  3. I'm not saying it won't end in the usual fudge. But it'll be good to see them squirm.
