"An idea no longer shrouded in mist, through wave or ether comes to me, like a star from high up in the skies, or a pearl from the bottom of the sea." - Victor Hugo (Les rayons et les ombres)
Truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Maybe it's the most beautiful interpretation of the song that there is.
I have just had several minutes of sheer bliss and absolute relaxation listening to it. Thanks for that.
I must say I found it very slightly a too sombre rendition. But it is a beautiful song.
I think a slight somberness which you flag up is in keeping with the events and the time. They are leaving their homeland, fleeing from the Nazi terror, they don't know if they'll ever come back. Perhaps we've been accustomed to hearing it as a jolly song, which is really isn't if we listen closely to the words - edelweiss bless my homeland forever. They place their faith in the flower, which will still be there in a high pure environment despite the war and the atrocities.
