Orange Unpeeled / Apples are not the only Fruit.

Unsheathed

The blade
to the peel

The skin which

Peeled off
in one

Complete strip

An orange

  Skinned
snake

Her smile was

Appealing
and
generous

Half
the blood orange

Shared

With her

Other half

  But

Who got the pip?

And never mind

Why?

Later
They reared
The fruit
Of their loins.

  1. Where was God? Never to let you down but never there when you want him, not that I blame God for anything.

  2. I must say that the fruit of my loins (58 this week) has cost me a lot more than a thousand lorry loads of oranges (which I love but am rather too lazy to peel).

    1. You have discovered the secret of eternal youth. Lie about your age. And have a great birthday.

  3. I have almost completely forgotten what Jeanette Winterson's novel was about, although I remembered her book title. (Come to think of it, "shared with her other half" in Jeanette's terms would be a woman).
Your picture of the peel as a snake is vivid - and in Germany you can call oranges also Apfelsine - so your Eva might choose.

    1. I can only remember that I enjoyed the novel immensely and that I promised myself I would read it again sometime. Like you, I can't remember the plot, if there was one, but I recall her use of vocabulary impressed me the most. A is for Apfel. Or maybe an Apfelsaft. In Austria strawberries and pineapples are both called Ananas. There's that A again. A for Alpha.

    4. Still have the book. Been meaning to read it again, in my hand several times . , . so maybe get to it soon. Thanks for the summary. Very neat.

    6. I was prompted to visit the website jeanettewinterson.com by your comment. I know Accrington quite well. A young friend attended same school as JW and is in final year at Cambridge. Accy is a fine town. You'll doubtless be familiar with England's best named footy club Accrington Stanley? I'm ashamed to say I never went to watch them and that I had many opportunities to do so.

  4. I really enjoy your poetic sense of humor, Gwil. Nice to see all the Jeanette Winterson fans here.

    1. Thanks Shawn. I appreciate that comment. You read between the lines. I like that. I come from a 12 word slogan background and filled my house with TV sets and holidays, not to mention golf clubs and garden furniture. It explains my poetic style if I dare call it that.

  5. Has anyone been to her London grocery store?
