All is Well

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no false air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it
be spoken without effort, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind just because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere near, just around
the corner.
   All is well.

    1. I am happy that the Dean of St. Paul's poem is supported by discoveries in the science world; the quantum brain for instance. But that aside, it is a comforting and reassuring verse.

  2. __Often the thoughts of someone lost and deeply missed wrench your heart, but in memory, the smiles of love and laughter overcome; death is a moment, memories live on.

    The tears
    of a love's death,
    are an instant's moment.
Smiles are the stars, the memory
    of life.

    1. Smiles are the stars. I'm afraid my teeth don't twinkle brightly as they used to. Guess I ate too much Blackpool Rock and other rubbish in the swinging sixties.

  3. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem, Gwil (I didn't know it). Calming thoughts. Nothing is lost, ever.

    1. Like attracts like. It will be alright in the unknown beyond.
