Auld Lang Syne

"Light be the turf on the breast of the Heaven-inspired poet who composed this glorious fragment."(Robert Burns - 17th December 1788)

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to min'?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear.
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu'd the gowans fine;
But we've wandered mony a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidled i' the burn,
From morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine;
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.

Robert Burns (1759-1796)

  1. Loved reading it p-i-r - as long as I don't have to read it aloud! Happy New Year to you. I have enjoyed our blogging relationship this year (almost sounds like a swear word!) and hope we continue to communicate in 2009.
