It's only Guantanamo, for Christ's sake!

I continue to believe that we've got to close Guantanamo - Pres. Barack Obama

The four life-sized sculptures of Christ by Adel Abdessemed are on display at the Prima Materia Exhibition in Punto Della Dogana in Venice until the end of the year.

The exhibit titled Decor was made in 2011 from Guantanamo Bay type razor wire and is modelled after the central panel of the Issenheim altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald (painted 1512-1516) which Abdessemed visited in Colmar as a student.

  1. Do you go to Venice a lot? I like the yellow image you made from the photo. You could try different coloured backgrounds.

  2. I go once or twice a year. It's not too far. Maybe as far as Torquay from you. I also did it in blue which looked cold and steely but I thought the orange angrier and better suited the tortured icon theme.

  3. I users to go to Venice quite often when I was studying art a few years ago.

  4. I think the Venezia Biennale is the best time to go. There are exhibits from all over the world. Next one is 2015.

  5. Not sure about indigo. Too dark I think.

  6. Yes, indigo probably too dark. I go to the Biennale but I missed the 2013, first one I have missed since 2002. It was difficult time for me, that year.

  7. I think I meant 2003 but I am sure you knew that.

  8. Yes, it's every odd year anyway, not to be confused with the architecture biennale which is every even year.
