Crow's Sunny Day

a sunny day
and crow spied
the snake

sunning itself
on a path
in the woods

crow swooped low
and attacked -
stabbing and stabbing

the reptile's head
working away without mercy
until he'd stabbed

the squirming serpent
to death
and carried it away

with a victory roll
gliding low through the outstretched branches
of the trees

- all that remained
on the path
was the stench

  and  it was
                     vile

  1. Like Rachel, I can feel the stench.

    1. It was a surprise ending, and I think that's because crows tend to generate a bad press poetically speaking, a bad press a la Ted Hughes for example.

  4. The poem is like a painting. I could see it.
