What do you see?

It is my heart
held to the flame
now dancing

A popular New Year's tradition in Austria is to melt a metallic object. I was offered the choice of various objects. In size and colour they resemble traditional Monopoly pieces. There was even a top hat and I debated if I should select it, but in the end I chose the heart. After a few minutes the amalgam placed in the spoon and held to the candle became liquified. I tipped the liquid into a bowl of cold water. In an instant it solidified, creating a new and unique object. It is an oracle, and predicts my fortune for the year ahead.

What do you see?

My own interpretation can be found below:

Flamenco Dancer.

  1. Of course now that you have suggested flamenco dancer that is all that I can see too. But I think it is a lovely tradition.

    1. Hello Pat, strangely there was a small 'dagger' too, and everybody joked about it. Maybe it's Carmen they said.

  2. What an interesting tradition indeed. It appears to show a figure sitting on a chair/throne?
    Warm greetings!

  4. What a tempting tradition. I prefer to avoid the Rorschach test and go with your lovely poem at the top.

    2. My apologies for calling you a man. Having seen your lovely photo I'm clearly wrong. I had also wrongly assumed you were Irish ;). That'll teach me a lesson. Never make assumptions.
