Best to watch in the evening when the sun is behind the webcam. It's not always streaming in the morning from what I can make out. Perhaps they switch it off when the picture is too bright due
to the sun's position relative to the camera. In any case the birds are very active in the evening before settling down - more entertaining than watching football.
It was working last night. Lovely pictures. Osprey brings a fish to the nest for the two little ones to share. We could hear the sheep in the fields and owl somewhere. This morning the live stream seems to be offline. Hopefully just a temporary hitch.
Pat, I was over there a few weeks ago. There are some lovely train journeys to be had from Porthmadog. You can go towards Pwllheli or Aberystwyth along the coast line, or towards Blaenau Ffestiniog, or Caernarfon. In Welshpool we saw a train pulling an old Austrian carriage. It was bought by one of the Welsh Independent Railways from the defunct Salzburg to Ischl Railway (real Sound of Music country) which was foolishly closed in the 1950's.
Better weather today. The chicks, now as big as their parents, are now standing up in the nest and flapping their wings. In August they will be ready to fly to Africa.
Today they are learning some 'helicoptering' in the nest. This entails flapping wings until rising vertically about 6" to 12" and then dropping back down again. It looks warm in Wales and it is. Forecast is 30 C and thunderstorms. Wonder what the youngsters will make of it. Hope the nest survives intact, although there are doubtless several volunteers on hand to lend any emergency assistance.

ReplyDeleteI love your header Gwil. Do I assume that you are (or have recently been) over here?

DeleteI'm pleased to say the web cam is now working again. Lovely pictures - a softer light than yesterday.
DeleteMore great webcam today despite the rain.
DeleteBit stormy in Snowdonia today. Hope nest doesn't get blown away!

DeleteBird W7 finally took to the air for a short flight.
DeleteBird W8, a little younger, is still at the helicopter stage. But has ambitions.
Bird W8 now also fledged. What a happy family they are.
DeleteW7 has injured his right foot. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
