Street scene in Venice |
strings
of bright lights
caught
in a window
vis-a-vis
with another
an alley
with people
walking
straight through
the window
displays
displays
with
echoing strides
approach
-ing and dying
-ing and dying
for the camera
unseen
in the light
of reflection
I adore those masks Gwil - the Venetians are past masters at the art of mask-making aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThere are thankfully artisans in many skills still to be found in certain quarters of Venice. How it will last is an open question. Each year more and more such places close and go over to cheap imports and kitsch.
DeleteThe poem is beautiful and reveals the atmosphere .
ReplyDeleteAs for Venice's masks, Murano's glass and Burano's lace, they are dying arts. I love visiting Venice in winter with grey foggy days and no tourists about. Greetings Maria x
Grazie!
DeleteThose foggy days in Venezia are haunting, shadows and foghorns.
Love the photo and the poem is perfect for it.
